This introductory course provides a background in literature and language, including grammar, vocabulary, composition, listening,
and speaking. Classical and contemporary multicultural literary works are studied. Students will explore the genres of short fiction,
nonfiction, mythology, poetry, drama, and the novel in greater depth and with more rigorous expectations than in English I. Close
reading and literary and rhetorical analysis techniques are introduced as long range preparation for the Advanced Placement
examinations in English Language and Composition and English Literature and Composition during the junior and senior years.
