AP RESEARCH

CODE: AP RESEARCH FULL YEAR CREDIT: 1.0

PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of the AP Seminar course with an AP score of 3 or higher.
AP Research is the second of two courses in the AP Capstone™ program. The research course allows students to deeply explore an
academic topic, problem, issue, or idea of individual interest. Students design, plan, and implement a yearlong investigation to address
a research question. Through this inquiry, they further the skills they acquire in the AP Seminar course by learning research
methodology employing ethical research practices, and accessing, analyzing and synthesizing information. Students reflect on their
skill development, document their processes, and curate the artifacts of their scholarly work through a process and reflection portfolio.
The course culminates in an academic paper of 4,000 – 5,000 words and a presentation with an oral defense.

AP Seminar

CODE: AP SEMINAR FULL YEAR CREDIT: 1.0

Open to Sophomores and Juniors- All students who register will have a brief interview with the department chair.

AP Seminar is the first of two courses in the AP Capstone™ program. The seminar course is designed for the motivated student who possesses a natural curiosity about the host of real-world problems that beg solutions. This course offers students the opportunity, individually and in collaborative teams, to explore an array of issues through a multitude of perspectives. Students are empowered to collect and analyze information with accuracy and precision in order to craft and communicate evidence-based arguments. Students will learn and apply communication and research skills appropriate for college studies. The students will take the AP Seminar end-of course exam.
