Xavier and Brophy Students Organize Virtual Run to benefit St. Vincent de Paul

What happens when three cross country running friends get together — virtually — and talk about what they can do to help others who may not be as fortunate?
If they are Xavier and Brophy juniors Jamie Stelnik, Jackson Moran, and Charlie Fallon, they create a virtual fun run to benefit St. Vincent de Paul.

Jamie Stelnik, a junior at Xavier College Prep, said:
There are people who are forgotten during the panic of the pandemic. We wanted a way to raise money to help them. So we created The Arizona Run for COVID-19. You go out by yourself and run 1 mile or a 5k, and send in your time. Get your family and friends to contribute to your run. We’ve even got a leaderboard for prizes for the fastest female and male runners. Plus, we have a raffle that everyone can participate in!

100% of the proceeds from The Arizona Run for COVID-19 go to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. Your donation supports to-go meals from St. Vincent De Paul’s charity dining rooms and food boxes for families in need. It also helps with rent and utility assistance for individuals missing paychecks, telemedicine for the uninsured, hygiene kits, and shelter.
A suggested donation of $15 will go straight to St. Vincent de Paul’s COVID-19 fund. The Arizona Run for COVID-19 e ven helps restaurants who are preparing St. Vincent’s meals during the pandemic. The virtual race takes place from May through June 12th, and you don’t need to run to donate. You can run outside or even on a treadmill.

Brophy College Prep Juniors, Jackson Moran and Charlie Fallon said,
Some people consider this time a stay at home vacation. It’s totally the opposite for many people. In fact, this is the time when they need more help than ever. We don’t want people suffering — especially knowing we can do something about it. Plus, the running community is tight-knit in Phoenix, so we know they want to help.

The Arizona Run for COVID-19 is a perfect example of the Xavier spirit. It shows the resilience, faith, and integrity of our students.
