Sophomore pitcher Angie Falls, who excelled last year as a freshman, helping Xavier win the State Championship, showed off her stuff Tuesday afternoon by pitching a no-hitter versus Corona del Sol at Xavier Petznick Field.
Dangerous on the mound; dangerous at the plate.
- On the Mound: In five innings, Angie faced 17 batters, striking out ten and walking just two.
- At the Plate: three hits, including a double, in four plate appearances.
Three Gators recorded two hits: Sariah McNabb (including a triple), Joie Ramos, and Riley McKeever (both doubles).
In addition, these three batted in two or more runs: McNabb (2), Ramos (2), and McKeever (4).
Xavier collected three runs in the first inning with a triple, three singles, and a couple of stolen bases. That is all the runs they would need.
However, the Gators decided to add eight runs in the 2nd inning just to make sure. Xavier brought thirteen batters to the plate and used a variety of ways to move people around the bases.
- Just three hits (2 singles and 1 double)
- Five walks (two in a row once and three in a row once)
- One hit-by-pitch
- One reached first base on an error
Xavier got their final run in the 4th inning and didn’t bat in the 5th due to the application of the mercy rule.
The win runs their 6A Conference record to 6-2. MaxPreps puts the Gators’ 6A Ranking at #8. AzPreps rankings begin April 1 at noon.
The Gators have two more games this week.
- Thursday, 3:45pm, at Corona del Sol
- Saturday at Sandra Day O’Connor for a make-up 1pm game
