Xavier Track & Field Top-Ten Marks Abound During First Week of Competition Season 2025

March 10, 2025

by Chris Pfaff, Xavier Sportswriter

Last week, Xavier Track & Field took on two track meets:

  • Wednesday, March 5: Three-way home meet: Chandler(93); Xavier (50); Hamilton(13).
  • Thu and Fri, March 6 & 7: Red Mountain Rampage: Xavier takes 5th out of 27 teams.

The exciting part of last week was the number of Xavier All-Time Top-Ten marks that were produced during the first week of the season. Note: the numbers in parentheses below refer their rank in the Xavier Top-Ten for their respective event.

  • Eleanor Borchard broke the school record in the 100 High Hurdles. She went from 14.78 (3rd) to 14.63 (school record) and won the event.
  • Eleanor won the 200m as well. She went from 25.78 (7th) to 25.70 (5th) and took 2nd in the event.
  • Eleanor added another first place by winning the 300 hurdles, producing twenty-eight of Xavier’s sixty points for the meet. This wasn’t a PR for her; however, she already owns the 300h school record.
  • Vivian Amoia shocked the entire world in the 100m race. She went from 12.89 (not in XCP Top-10) to 12.37 (2nd). This is an amazing PR for such a short race.
  • Vivian got another PR by running a sub-60 in the 400m for the first time. She went from 60.73 (not in XCP Top-10) to 59.34 (10th).
  • Susannah Root produced another amazing Xavier performance on Wednesday by getting a whopping 15-inch PR over her 2024 Season Best in the Pole Vault. She went from 7ft-9in (not in XCP Top-Ten) to 9-00 (tied for 5th).
  • A non-top-ten performance by Kaitlyn Markham in the 3200m at the Red Mountain Rampage is worthy of note. She dropped her PR of 11:38 to 11:27 (impressive). Her new PR would have been good enough for 8th place at last year’s 6A Division Meet and 15th at last year’s State Meet. Great start for Kaitlyn.
  • One more performance worthy of note: Xavier’s school record holder in the Javelin, Alexa Zowine, threw the discus in competition for the first time ever at Wednesday’s meet. Watch out! She is already just 2ft-7in away from the Xavier All-Time Discus Top Ten list. I think we all know where this is going.
