The Varsity soccer team beat Crimson in the quarterfinals of State Tuesday night 8-0. So far, all Xavier tournament games have produced a shutout. Xavier 14, Opponents 0.

Xavier Soccer continues their assault on a very rare feat: Five Consecutive State Championships.

How about the rare feat by Sophomore Dylan Cook: Four Goals in One Game!

The scoring started early — within the first ten minutes — when Senior Captain Ally Brown delivered a nice pass to fellow Senior Captain Micah Cagungun, who tucked away a beautiful shot for the first score of the night.

Four minutes later, Brown served a long-flighted pass to Junior Olivia Yu, who received the ball with a beautiful first touch and then quickly struck the ball into the net for Xavier’s second score.

With less than four minutes remaining in the first half, Junior Forward Ivy Shuman dribbled past several Crismon defenders and delivered the ball to Cook, who faked out her defender and struck a hard shot into the back of the net. Xavier 3-0.

Less than ten minutes into the second half, Xavier struck again when Brown was tripped by a Crismon defender in the Penalty Box and awarded a Penalty Kick, which she calmly converted. Xavier 4-0.

Seven minutes later, Junior Forward Francesca Diaz displayed some dazzling footwork to put herself in a position to send the ball to Cook. With great moves and footwork of her own, Cook scooted around a Crismon defender and shot the ball past the goalkeeper. Xavier 5-0.

Just over four minutes later, Sophomore Defender Reese Kohler, who was positioned outside between the penalty box and the sideline, struck a very hard shot high to just below the top frame of the goal. The Crismon goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball with a jumping, one-handed swat of the ball but inadvertently directed the ball to the charging Schuman, who out-hustled a Crismon defender and quickly smashed the ball into the net. Xavier 6-0.

With fifteen minutes left in the game, Cook headed a well-placed, Maya Dolasinski corner kick into the back of the net to put Xavier up 7-0.

The final Xavier goal — Dylan Cook’s fourth goal and the most eventful scoring play of the night — took place with about 13 minutes left in the game and finished with an assist by a Crismon defender. The events:

  • Bianca Willis’s well-placed free kick from the edge of Xavier logo near midfield
  • Asha Patel’s shot on goal that was mishandled by the Crismon goalie
  • Maya Dolasinski’s shot on goal hitting the goal post and ricocheting to eight yards directly in front of the goal
  • A Crismon defender’s failed attempt to clear the ball
  • Dylan Cook punching that failed attempt into the net just inside the goal post

Game over by Mercy Rule. Xavier 8-0.

Xavier Soccer is looking for a large, excited Xavier Community crowd to attend the Open State Soccer Semifinal game hosted by Xavier.
