The Varsity soccer team beat Salpointe on their home field on Friday night, 1/24, by a score of 2-0. It was their fourth shutout out of eight games this season.

About half way into the first half, Senior captain Michal Cagungun assisted to fellow Senior Lainey Swanson, who struck a beautiful shot past the Salpointe goalkeeper.

Michal was involved in the second goal as well when she pressured the goalkeeper, forcing a Salpointe turn-over. The goalkeeper came out a good distance away from her goal, so when Junior forward Francesca Diaz got to the ball, knowing the goalkeeper was pretty far away from her goal, she hit a beautiful shot up and over the defensive players into a wide-open goal for the second Xavier score of the night.

Once again, the Gators played really well defensively. Midfielders Senior Captain Ally Brown and Juniors Nev Herzog, Elie Lopez and Kateri Etsitty played very well. The back line of Sophomores Sophia Knox and Reese Kohler, Senior Izzy Lee, and Junior Bianca Willis shut down any attack Salpointe tried to create. Junior goalkeeper Chloe Cundiff, who wasn’t tested much during the match, kept a clean sheet.

Junior forwards Olivia Yu and Kyleigh Carr also played very well.
