The Xavier Cross Country team fought the Division 1 SW Sectional battle without their #1 and #2 runners today at Crossroads Park in Gilbert. But that didn’t seem to matter as Xavier came home with the trophy, winning by 29 points over second-place Shadow Ridge.
Most of the Xavier runners moved up throughout the race instead of starting out too fast and burning out later. Check out the table below:
- Maggie was 20th after 3/4 of a mile, moved up to 10th by 1 1/2 miles, moved up to 7th by 2 1/4 miles, and finished in 7th.
- Notice Annie steadily moving up at each marker until the finish.
Name | 3/4 – Mile | 1 1/2 – Mile | 2 1/4 – Mile | Finish |
Maggie Mostoller | 20th | 10th | 7th | 7th |
Chantel Newman | 11th | 12th | 12th | 10th |
Ellie Hilsabeck | 22nd | 14th | 15th | 15th |
Katie Castle | 24th | 14th | 16th | 16th |
Annie Quan | 32nd | 26th | 21st | 19th |
Maggie (7th) and Chantel (10th) were medalists by finishing in the top 14.
Xavier’s #3, #4, and #5 runners — Ellie, Katie, and Annie — ran together or very close to each other throughout the race. Xavier’s #6 and #7 runners — Nova Rodriguezcrespo and CC Luna — were not that far behind at 24th and 28th out of 99 runners.
