Xavier Track & Field visited Westwood HS in Mesa for the Hohokam Invitational on Friday, April 12.
Here are the Xavier Highlights:
This is JR Alexa Zowine‘s first season throwing the javelin. In her first competition, she threw a respectable 73 feet. In the 2nd javelin competition of her life, Alexa threw 94-9 (more than 20-ft improvement) to move into the Xavier All-Time Javelin Top Ten list at the #2 spot.
She has since improved her #2 distance to 96 ft – 9 in, 10-7 away from the school record (107-4).
On Friday, Alexa threw a 21-4 PR (118-1) to set a brand new school record; almost 11 ft further than the existing school record.
Maya Ofori ’24 tied her own school record of 12.34 in the 100m.
Eleanor Borchard ’25 went from 5th to 4th on the Xavier All-Time 400m Top Ten list with a time of 57.12. And that’s not even her personal best. She ran 56.59 last April as a sophomore for Oaks Christian in California.
Nia Ubom ’26 got a 7-inch PR in the Triple Jump with a jump of 31-0.
On Thursday at the Scottsdale Distance Classic, Julia Russo ’24, the PR Queen for the 2024 season, ran another PR in the 1600 with a time of 5:09.78. Now that the 5:10 barrier has been reached, can she surpass the 5:05 barrier (5:04.40 to be exact) to join the Xavier 1600m Top Ten list? That would be a great addition to her season, as she recently broke the 11-min barrier to make the Xavier Top Ten list in the 3200m.
