Xavier Crew at Long Beach Junior Invitational

March 12, 2024

This past weekend our Xavier Crew Team competed in the Long Beach Junior Invitational with results showing vast improvement from past years.

In an extraordinarily competitive event, the Youth Women’s Quad, rowers Haley Strickbine, Cara Schillinger, Norah Dentz, and Sydney Hertzberg advanced through the heats, making it to the final and placing 5th overall. In another competitive event, the Youth Women’s four, coxed by Gizelle Medina and including Miranda Papez, Cara Schillinger, Haley Strickbine, and Sydney Hertzberg, finished 4th overall, missing a bronze medal by a mere 2 seconds.

Our Freshman also had an amazing weekend, winning medals in 4 different events. In the under 16 quad: Cox Mia Gemoll, Sienna Goforth, Cara Boyle, Sophie Robaina, Ella Boyle beat every boat in sight placing first for a gold medal. The Freshman, under 16 Four with Cox, Mia Gemoll, Ella Boyle, Cara Boyle, Sophie Robaina, and Shelsia Alcaraz Cinco earned a third place bronze medal. In the under 16 double, freshman Sienna Goforth and Cara Boyle placed second, winning a silver medal. Freshman, under 16 single with Shelsia Alcaraz Cinco won a third place, bronze medal. Finally the Freshman, under 16 eight including Cox: Dalia Cheyney, Sienna Goforth, Cara Boyle, Ella Boyle, Shelsia Alcaraz Cinco, Sophie Robaina, Hayden Byrne, Sofia Carbajal, and Jackie Torrez Manzo had the third fastest time in their category!
