Today, the #2 Xavier Gators met the #10 Mountain View Toros in the 6A State Soccer Quarterfinals on Petznick Field. Xavier blanked the Toros 4-0 in the first half with outstanding defense and goalie play while making the scoring of goals look easy. Mountain View played a more aggressive 2nd half and scored a goal to finalize the score at 4-1.

Lourdes Lauterborn ’24 scored Xavier’s first goal off a fantastic assist by Lucy Brink ’24. If you watch the video at half-speed, you’ll see her amazing footwork.

Correction: Ally Brown ’25 scored the 2nd goal for the Gators off Lucy Brink’s second assist of the game. Again, watch the video at half-speed to appreciate Lucy’s passing ability.

Lourdes made a quick cut about 10 yards out in front of the goal and punched it in for her 2nd goal of the game — Xavier’s third.

Before the buzzer could sound to signal the end of the first half, Kyleigh Carr ’26 smacked the ball past her defender and the goalie to finish Xavier’s scoring for the game and give the Gators a 4-0 lead. Frosh Sadie Becker made the assist.

The #2 Gators face the #3 Desert Vista Thunder in the Semifinals next Wednesday, February 21, on Xavier’s home field at 6:00 pm. It will be the 2nd meeting of the year for these two teams; the first ending in a 0-0 tie. Expect a nail biter!
