The Varsity soccer team opened up its season last night in the pouring rain beating Corona del Sol 3-1!
The Gators dominated the game after falling behind by one goal. We tied the game when Junior Defender Izzy Lee passed to senior Maddie Schenk, who struck a shot from a very long distance for a goal that dropped over the Corona del Sol goalkeeper. It was a beautiful goal!
The second goal occurred when senior Lucy Brink delivered a beautiful pass to Junior Michal Gagungun, who cut the ball inside and struck the ball left footed to the upper 90 (top left or top right corner) part of the goal for the second goal and the go ahead score.
The third and final goal came when sophomore Ellie Lopez delivered a beautiful through ball to senior captain Lourdes Lauterborn. She put it past the Corona goalkeeper for the third and final goal of the night.
Senior Captain goalkeeper Kate Willmering played well as did all the defenders, which included juniors Izzy Lee, Ally Brown, Charlotte Sredzinski, sophomore Bianca Willis, and Freshman Sophia Knox. Sophomore Oliva Yu played extremely well the entire night as did the entire team and all the players mentioned.
Additionally, sophomores Kyleigh Carr, Katerina Etsitty, and Myriam Lawrence contributed good minutes.
It was a good opening game for the season. Great job Gators and best of luck on Tuesday against Desert Vista!
