Xavier won the Brophy AMDG Invitational on Friday in a meet that featured 25 scoring teams!
The AMDG uses a decathlon-style scoring system to determine the team champion.
DECATHLON SCORING:
– Only ten out of the usual 18 events are used to determined team scores.
– In each of those events, only the team’s top performer’s score contributes to the team’s total points.
– A team’s top performer’s score is determined by the Decathlon Scoring Table.
– An athlete may only compete in two scoring events.
Xavier came away with the highest total because of some outstanding performances in most of the scoring events AND because Chandler, the overwhelming favorite, had no entries in the 800m run. While Xavier scored 744 points in the 800m, Chandler scored zero. Amazingly, Chandler still beat every other team to take 2nd place in spite of not scoring in the 800m.
Elena Soderstrom was Xavier’s lone EVENT WINNER, going 32-3 in the Shot Put and moving into the Xavier All-Time Top Ten list for the Shot Put at #8. If she improves by another 11 1/4 inches in this her final track season at Xavier, Elena will find herself at #4.
Xavier’s other TOP FIVE PERFORMANCES included:
– 2nd Place: 4x800m team (Maria Benitez, Tatum Goforth, Mia Stoller, Bella Gomez)
– 3rd Place: Avery Allen – Pole Vault
– 4th Place: Reese Brown – 1600m
– 4th Place: Cierra Gonzalez – Long Jump
