The home cooking wasn’t good enough to defeat Pinnacle Tuesday night as the Pioneers overpowered the Gators 51-36.
Xavier was unable to overcome a slow first quarter, finishing nine points in the hole, 3-12. The deficit grew to twelve after the 2nd quarter and sixteen after the third before losing the game by fifteen points.
For whatever reason, as a team, the Gators didn’t match Pinnacle’s focus and intensity.
However, Xavier still produced some highlights worthy of note.
- Noelle Bofia (14) and Sariah McNabb (8) led the team in points.
- Noelle (15) and Sariah (10) led the team in rebounds.
– - Noelle continued to block shots, and Sariah split the opponent’s defense with aggressive drives to the basket for scores. But don’t take my word for it; watch the highlight video below.
Senior Lucy Sanford, the team’s facilitator, led the team with heart. She played much of the game in pain, as she entered the game with an injured ankle and had to play with a brace. Coach Gillom decided to keep her out of the fourth quarter, and she said Lucy would miss some games to allow the ankle to heal.
Despite the pain, Lucy still managed to make four of my thirteen highlights for the game’s highlight video, including sprinting the full length of the court to block a Pinnacle fast-break layup.
But don’t take my word for it.
