Xavier Volleyball State Round 1 Success: One Down, Three to Go

Xavier Volleyball has not won a State Title since 2018, but they have been working very hard this season to stop that streak. They are 15-1 in conference and 16-1 overall, and they are ranked #1 in the 6A Division of State.

On Thursday, November 7, the Gators took the first of four steps required claim the State Title: one down, three to go. In the comfort of Xavier’s home gymnasium, the Gators defeated #16 Valley Vista 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-12) in a Round 1 match-up.

Xavier Stat Leaders:

In typical fashion, SO Tessa Larkin (13) and JR Vivian Hickman (8) led the team in kills.
Larkin (4) and Elle McCreery (3) led the team in blocks.
Hickman (14) and Mattea Saunders (13) led the team in digs.
Selah O’Connor (16 assists) and Hickman (14 assists) continued their proven excellence setting up the hitters.

Xavier continues their assault on the State Title next week as they face a team they haven’t seen this year: #8 Queen Creek.

This quarterfinal match-up takes place next Tuesday, November 12, at Xavier’s Activity Center at 6:00 PM. Following this match, we hope to say, “two down, two to go”.
