Xavier Volleyball has not won a State Title since 2018, but they have been working very hard this season to stop that streak. They are 15-1 in conference and 16-1 overall, and they are ranked #1 in the 6A Division of State.
On Thursday, November 7, the Gators took the first of four steps required claim the State Title: one down, three to go. In the comfort of Xavier’s home gymnasium, the Gators defeated #16 Valley Vista 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-12) in a Round 1 match-up.
Xavier Stat Leaders:
- In typical fashion, SO Tessa Larkin (13) and JR Vivian Hickman (8) led the team in kills.
- Larkin (4) and Elle McCreery (3) led the team in blocks.
- Hickman (14) and Mattea Saunders (13) led the team in digs.
- Selah O’Connor (16 assists) and Hickman (14 assists) continued their proven excellence setting up the hitters.
Xavier continues their assault on the State Title next week as they face a team they haven’t seen this year: #8 Queen Creek.
This quarterfinal match-up takes place next Tuesday, November 12, at Xavier’s Activity Center at 6:00 PM. Following this match, we hope to say, “two down, two to go”.
