Xavier, the #1-ranked volleyball team in the State 6A division, shut out Desert Vista 3-0 (25-12 for all three sets) at Xavier’s Activity Center on Tuesday, October 22.
It was the perfect outcome for Senior Night.
SR Jane Burkhardt led the team in kills (10). The 3rd set could be named the “Jane Burkhardt Show”. She produced five kills and one ace.
SR Chineze Gray demonstrated her outstanding athleticism: quickness, leaping ability, and powerful swing. Besides knocking down three kills, she served up four aces (2nd most on the team), and nailed three blocks (tied for most on the team). Gray owned the last two points of the 3rd set (see video highlights below).
SR Annemarie O’Gara was second on the team for kills (7), producing some very powerful attack shots.
Other power hitters brought down the hammer: JR Vivian Hickman (6 kills), SR Courtney Snopko (6 kills, 3 blocks), and SR Elle McCreery (5 kills).
Hickman (14 assists) and JR Selah O’Connor (12) continued their consistency in piling up assists to set up the hitters.
JR Mattea Saunders, busy handling the onslaught of Desert Vista attacks, had an outstanding night: 17 digs and 12 serve-receives without an error, along with five service aces (the most on the team).
