In back-to-back nights, Xavier goes from playing #4 to playing #2 — definitely a challenge.
Tonight, October 17, 6:00 PM, #1 Xavier (12-0) hosts #2 Corona del Sol (11-0) — a battle of unbeatens (non-tournament matches).
Both teams have beaten Sunnyslope: Xavier 3-2, Corona del Sol 3-0. State #3 Sandra Day O’Connor beat Sunnyslope 3-1.
Only Xavier has played O’Connor. The Gators won 3-0. Neither Xavier nor Corona del Sol will see O’Connor the rest of the regular season.
Both Xavier and Corona del Sol have one more date with Sunnyslope and with each other. So, tonight’s battle is just a small, but very important part of a bigger picture: the regular season. The dust will not settle until the Gators and Aztecs collide on Tuesday, October 29.
Nine days later, November 7, the AIA 6A State Tournament begins.
Go Gators!
