Senior Maya Superfon took 3rd place in the one-meter diving event on Friday, September 20, at the Brophy/Xavier Diving Invitational at the Brophy Aquatics Center.
The diving competition comprises three sessions. Because there were 45 divers in this competition, the following procedure was followed:
- First Session: All divers get five dives, and then cuts are made, narrowing the field to 32 divers.
- Second Session: The remaining 32 divers get three more dives before the final cut is made.
- Third Session: The remaining 24 divers get three more dives.
Like the individual swimming events, the top 16 finishers contribute points toward the team score for a typical invitational.
After Maya’s 3rd place finish, frosh Genny Fischer took 16th — the final scoring position. Junior Ellie Desmond was just one place from scoring at 17th. Senior Payton Farley also competed for Xavier and finished out of scoring position.
The following video covers the 2nd and 3rd dives from the first session and all three dives from the final session.
