Xavier Volleyball defeated Mountain View 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-22) on Thursday in the Xavier Activity Center. The Gators are undefeated through their first two matches and 6-0 for sets.
The first game provided some tension throughout until the score was tied at 14-14. However, Xavier outscored the Toros 11-3 the rest of the way to secure the win.
The Gators dominated the second game, grabbing a solid lead early and not letting go. The score reached 14-8, grew to 19-9, and finished at 25-5.
Xavier and Mountain View played a much tighter, hard-fought battle in the third set. The Gators managed to attain a five-point advantage at one point, but that was more of an anomaly. Scores of 3-3, 5-5, 13-13, 21-19, 23-22 tell the real story.
Tessa Larkin, only a sophomore, had the most kills (14), as you will notice when you watch the highlights below. JR setter Selah O’Connor set up the most kills with 17 assists.
JR Vivian Hickman — Larkin and O’Connor rolled up into one — managed 9 kills and 13 assists.
SR Annemarie O’Gara provided some much-needed, solid power from the right side with 8 kills. JR Mattea Saunders, being on the opposite end of many Toro spikes, produced 21 digs.
