One of Xavier’s most significant Legacy Gifts came recently from a very involved and dedicated Xavier family. The Chung Family confirmed their estate gift to Xavier this fall, after originally seeing Xavier’s “Let Us Know” initiative in 2019.
“This was an easy and simple way to make a positive impact for the long term, and because of our involvement with Xavier, we felt confident that our gift will be well managed, which gives us peace of mind.”
The Chung-family involvement at Xavier consisted of many things:
For Sam ’15 (a University of Pennsylvania graduate and software engineer with Airbnb in San Francisco) it was all about STEM, and the leadership positions she held in the Calculus and Chinese Clubs, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and Girls Have IT Day, which she co-chaired in 2015 and was keynote speaker for in 2020.
For Rachel ’19 (currently a junior at NYU’s Film school in New York City) it was Art and sports. She discovered her passion for telling stories through film, and was a varsity rower and coxswain in the Xavier Prep Crew team, where she and her four-member team won Bronze at Scholastics Nationals her junior year.
Martha and Steven wanted to be involved in their children’s lives as much as possible and took advantage of the many ways that Xavier offers parents to do so. Martha served as Mothers’ Guild President in 2015, chaired the Fashion Show in 2018, and continues to serve on Xavier’s Advisory Board. Steven supported Dads’ Club activities and the Crew Team by driving team members to regattas and maintaining their website.
With their children out of high school and onto their collegiate and career paths, Martha and Steven were able to finalize their estate plan that included Xavier. They believe that the most valuable gift that they can give a child is an education and felt that Xavier taught their daughters the skills necessary to be successful in college and in life.
They witnessed first-hand how Xavier can impact the path of a young woman’s life, so for them there is no better legacy gift than to help Xavier continue to do this for others for years to come. “Xavier not only offers their students a myriad of opportunities to explore and discover their interests and grow as individuals, but instills in them the work ethic and organizational skills necessary to achieve their goals in life.”
