The Brophy Rodeo Invitational presented by Ping included four out-of-town schools: two from California and one each from Utah and Nevada. The tournament title went to Bishop Gorman HS from Nevada. It was our very own Xavier College Prep Gators who took 2nd place after standing in 3rd place after Day 1.
The 2nd place team from Day 1, Troy (CA), shot a 295 on Day 1; however, a 308 on Day 2 opened the door for a more consistent Xavier team, who shot 296 – 295. Xavier, who was 8 shots out of first place after Day 1, finished 7 strokes behind first place at tournament’s end.
The individual star for the Gators was SO Kate Hauptman.
— Kate shot a 71 on Day 1, putting her in a tie for 6th place on the individual leaderboard.
— On Day 2, she shot a 69 and finished in sole possession of 3rd place.
— The golfers in front of Kate at the end of Day 1 shot scores of 72, 73, 74, 74, and 77 on Day 2, going the
exact opposite direction of Kate, who improved by 2 strokes on Day 2.
The remaining designated scorers for Xavier were:
- JR Annie Dawson – T-12th
- SR Ivy Song – T-14th
- SO Kalyn Doss – 29th
- SO Lena Durette – T-30th
Also worthy of note: SO Kyla Layman was one of the extras (not one of the designated scorers) for Xavier. She shot a score of 154, which would have placed her in a tie for 21st.
